OUR MISSION

WHO WE ARE & WHAT WE DO

Our CAC Legacy

image4

Children’s Aid Club was founded in 1955 by a small group of women who wanted to do something to help enrich the lives of the many underprivileged children in our South Florida community.

Over 60 years later, the 30 active members of CAC are continuing to select, support and contribute financially and socially to the welfare of children in South Florida.

Children’s Aid Club has helped hundreds of children and families through our partnerships with schools, charitable organizations and our Immediate Response Fund for Families. Providing personal contact and involvement is our strength and what makes us unique and successful.

OUR MISSION

Delivering Holiday Baskets to Broward Health -Salah Foundation Children's Hospital.

Our purpose is to help fill the gap for countless children in South Florida whose needs are not always met by existing social service programs.  We accomplish this by intervening to assist children and their families suffering from medical, financial and social hardships. We accomplish this in three ways: Through partnering with local children's Organizations and through our Immediate Response Fund for Individuals and through Special Projects.

                    WORK WITH ORGANIZATIONS

Children's Aid Club establishes relationships with certain schools in low income areas and selected charitable organizations  providing services to families in need. This enables us to reach more children, both in groups and as individuals. A liaison works with each school or organization to identify its needs, propose an annual budget to CAC and ensure that budgeted funds are used effectively and efficiently to benefit as many children as possible.

WORK WITH INDIVIDUALS

Through our Immediate Response Fund for Families, Children's Aid Club is able to act swiftly to provide financial assistance to families with children for short-term crisis situations. Families referred to us from our partner organizations are screened to qualify their needs, expenses, income and ability to sustain themselves in the future. By  working directly with creditors, we are sure that funds are being spent in accordance with our funding guidelines.

WE ALSO …. Have Special Projects

Distribute Holiday Baskets of food and gifts

Assemble and distribute layettes for at-risk newborns

Distribute food gift certificates to ensure that children do not go hungry

Provide school uniforms and shoes

Sponsor achievement award events in schools

Sponsor Birthday and Holiday parties

And so much more.....

HOW WE DO IT

Classic CASF Annual Charity Golf

image6

The Construction Association of South Florida (CASF) hosts an Annual Charity Golf Classic to benefit two local children's charities.  Children's Aid Club has worked closely with CASF since 2006 and been the recipient of their generosity.  CAC club members organize raffle, silent auction and live auction items for the golf tournament and provide volunteers for the day of the event.

Valentines Taste 'n' Tell Luncheon

image7

Our major fundraiser is our Valentine's Taste 'n' Tell Lunch held annually. This is a unique event featuring a menu of  5-6 items. Our guests are given a small recipe booklet that "tells" them how to prepare the items.  Taste ‘n’ Tell also features a bake sale, a silent auction, raffle baskets of goods and services

donated by generous people and companies in the community as well as a live auction. 100% of the profits from  Taste ‘n’ Tell is put back into the heart of the community.

OUR 2018 - 2019 Year in Review.

Immediate Response Fund for Families

CAC assisted 33 individual families with 82 children spending a total of $49,026.48.

Examples: CAC paid rent to avoid eviction, utilities to avoid cut off, car insurance, car repair or gas cards for work transportation; provided clothing, coats, uniforms, shoes for children in need at various times in the year and gave food gift certificates to help relieve finances and be sure to have food on the table. We helped families transitioning out of the homeless shelter into apartment living and helped homeless families find a place to live. We provided rental assistance, food gift certificates and gas cards to help indigent families of children suffering with cancer.

Food Certificates

A total of 1,033 $10.00 Winn Dixie food gift certificates and 656 $50.00 Publix food gift certificates were distributed by CAC in holiday baskets, to families in need and to clients of the organizations we partner with to be sure there was food on their table.

Holiday Baskets:

CAC assembled baskets for over 175 families consisting of over 600 children  spending a total of $35,577.22.

Baskets are distributed to families in need three times a year at Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Recipients are referred to CAC by social workers, partner organizations, and individual members. Baskets are a combination of member-donated goods, puchased goods, and food gift certificates. In addition,  CAC organized an adopt-a family Christmas gift program for 72 families which assisted Santa by providing clothing and toys for the children.

Organizations, Churches and Schools

CAC Partnered with 22 schools, churches and community organizations serving the disadvantaged, providing funding totaling $111,678.73

How Spending is Monitored

Spending of budgeted funds is monitored by individual CAC member liaisons who keep in contact with the organizations. Examples: CAC funded health exams for girls at PACE; shopped for and assembled 20 layettes of clothing and supplies each month for at-risk newborns of low income mothers; provided car seats for newborns: provided books and learning materials to several schools and preschools: hosted monthly birthday parties for children in the homeless center and at two low income nursery schools; sponsored recognition and learning incentive programs at three schools in low income areas and provided food gift certificates and diapers and wipes for distribution to clients of organizations serving low income families. We provided funding for mobile eye exams and glasses and aided a non-profit program by providing new socks, shoes and underwear and a toy to over 500 children.

                                                  Funds distributed: $197,282.43
